WickedWednesday: Wank Away!

This week Rebel is asking about whether, as an author I care if readers of my pieces masturbate to the work I produce:

You take a pic. You angle it for your best assets to show. You write a short piece. It’s hot sweaty sticky and delicious. You make these public, you share. Do you care what the viewer or reader does with them? Does it turn you on to know that you stimulate? Do they ask you for permission bringing you into their pleasure? Does it humiliate you to be reduced to their masturbation fodder, you a merely specimen of the species?

Conversely, that picture, the light, the angles, something’s clicks. The words, the ideas, the movement of the story. Your body reacts. You save it for later. You know why. A private movement and moment. Do you value it less for it’s immediate function? Is it art or literature when you masturbate over it? Are they human or porn in that moment of pleasure? Do you read the words or stare intently at the picture, or use it just to get you going? Do you return to favourite pieces?

My photography is usually to amuse or illustrate a point, so my images are rarely erotic or stimulating and I doubt anyone has ever masturbated to any one of my pictures.

But a lot of my words are written to stimulate. Sure, I like to weave in some of my twisted humour into my work, but what I write is to provoke you, my readers. And erotic writing is intended to cause blood to flow liberally to the nether regions.

But that is not to say I caused it. I wrote the words, your mind turned that mass of characters into a scene in your head that you found arousing. Your statuesque six foot blonde with blue eyes and a sadistic smile looks nothing like mine. Your tree-lined clearing looks nothing like mine. Your feelings of submission feel nothing like mine. Your orgasm isn’t mine. And so on.

My words are there to stimulate your mind into conveying some of what’s in my imagination. I set you on the journey but your feelings of arousal and lust are yours alone. And if that journey is such that you feel inclined to reach for your genitals then that’s great, but it’s not me that’s necessarily caused that. I led the horse to water, I did not make it drink.

But does masturbating readers devalue a piece? Not at all. I write to get a reaction, otherwise my work is dull. Some of my posts are designed to arouse and I’d love to believe that they erotically stimulate my readers. Some of my posts are written to amuse, like my entry into the Dutch Smut Marathon, and I want them to cause smiles or laughter. Other posts are penned to express my views, and I want to hear other opinions whether people agree or disagree with me: I love debate.

But am I humiliated by the prospect of people masturbating over my work? Isn’t that like asking a horror author whether he is offended by people being scared by his words or if academic authors are mortified that their readers may have learnt something after reading their books. If people wank to my work, I’ve played my part.

And yes, I have my favourite books, and my favourite stories. I come back to them from time to time; I love what they tell me, and the way my imagination processes the story conveyed. That’s why they are my favourites: they are erotic stories and they make me horny. The author has succeeded what they have set out to achieve.

So to everyone reading my stories, I hope you enjoy them and if that causes you to reach for your wet bits, then wank away! I’m truly honoured. After all, that’s what erotic writing is designed for, is it not?

  1. Your writing and photography is indeed amusing a lot of the time, but I wouldn’t be so quick to rule out the chance of someone wanking to them. You never know, people might wank to your photos all day long!

  2. Good point on isn’t that the point of writing it?
And I agree with Asa, you are often very humorous, especially with your photos. And you’ve no idea if they’re wank worthy, that isn’t your intent but others may view it differently.

This sums it up perfectly and is exactly why text (rather than imagery) is always my preference when it comes to getting myself off. I’m not sure I entirely agree that you’re not directly responsible for arousing your reader, though. While I do think that’s true to a certain extent, an author who can draw the reader in and get them on that path in the first place definitely has a hand (excuse the pun) in the end result. To my mind, it’s a partnership. A lovely, sexy one.

  4. You are so right… if no one is excited by the words we pen down, then we are doing something wrong and can just as well stop writing. Like Jane said, that one paragraph sums it up perfectly!

  5. Such a great piece, John, your sentiments on this subject mirror mine. And for the record, I think your photos are sexy, just like your stories.

  6. I am sure that somewhere someone has masturbated to your photos some of your photos (whether it is intended or not) have an erotic undertone. You are built a lot like biker hubby and so some of your work does turn me on but biker hubby benefits nicely from it 😉

  7. I love your images and often find them amusing, but I’m not one for wanking over images but your stories well the written word for me is different it can illicit a sexual response (as it should I think) but, again, I wouldn’t be sat with your words open in front of me wanking as I have my eyes closed most of the time! However, a character or scene might pop into my mind…!
