My wife is an amateur cake decorator, and member of the Sugarcraft Guild, and for a giggle I bought her a willy cake tin from Willy Cake Tin to go with her plethora of professional quality cake equipment. At a full-price cost of £10.95 it is certainly one of the cheapest tins in her collection.
Her first impression was that the cake tin was of reasonable quality: it felt thick enough metal although the edges underneath the tin where the metal was folded over was not as neat as her top quality kit. While this would have no bearing on the cooking, she did warn me that it might be a problem for cleaning. She also warned that she would not know how good it was until she used it, as it needed to dissipate the heat throughout the cake.
That said, the cake tin was a decent weight, and she helped me bake a cake for my office, in it. Here are our instructions:
Take your willy and apply plenty of grease to the the inside of the tin; you don’t want to play with an unlubed willy. We used butter but feel free to play with your culinary greases. :)Preheat oven to 160C
Beat 135g of softened butter with 135g of caster sugar before adding two eggs. Then fold 110g of plain flour and 35g of self raising flour and add a couple of teaspoons of milk. We added some chocolate chips too.Transfer creamy goo to your willy.
Bake in the heated oven for around thirty minutes. A skewer, inserted into the middle of the cake, should be “clean” when removed.Do not wince when doing this.
Leave in the cake tin for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack. If you greased your willy properly then this will come out easily.Level with a bread knife and cover in fondant icing.Again: no wincing!
After using the willy, I can confirm that it washes fine, and it did a good bake. We quickly added flesh-coloured fondant icing to it (and the finish by us is not great) but the cake is fine; it tasted lovely and is cooked reasonably evenly.
